Hotel EV charging is expanding fast
Hotel EV charging has grown dramatically since 2022. Major chains (Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, IHG) have deployed Level 2 chargers at thousands of properties. Some flagship properties have DC fast chargers. For road trips, hotel charging can add 150–250 miles overnight, potentially eliminating a fast-charging stop.
How to find hotels with charging
Filter for 'EV charging' in Google Hotels, Booking.com, or Hotels.com. PlugShare also shows chargers at hotel addresses. Marriott's Bonvoy app lists EV charging as a filterable amenity. Call the hotel to confirm charger availability and type (Level 1, Level 2, or DC fast) — listing data is sometimes outdated.
- ·Google Hotels: filter by 'EV charging' amenity
- ·PlugShare: search hotel address for charger details
- ·Booking.com / Hotels.com: 'EV charging' amenity filter
- ·Call ahead: confirm Level 2 (not just Level 1) and number of stalls
What levels to expect
Most hotels offer Level 2 charging at 7.2–11.5 kW — that's 50–90 miles per 8-hour overnight stay for an average EV. Some premium properties have 50–150 kW DC fast chargers. A few properties still only have Level 1 (120V outlets). Know which level you're getting before booking if range is critical.
Cost and access
Hotel charging varies: some include it free, some charge $10–$25/session flat, some charge by the hour, and some require hotel key card access. Tesla Superchargers adjacent to hotels bill through the Tesla app at standard Supercharger rates. Ask at check-in for the charger access code or activation process.
Planning hotel charging into road trips
On a multi-day road trip, plan your overnight stops at hotels with Level 2 or faster charging. Arriving at 30% SoC and departing at 90% SoC after 8 hours means you've added 200+ miles overnight for $0–$25. This often eliminates one daytime DC fast-charging stop, saving 20–30 minutes.
